To a kid, power outages are fun and exciting.

not a kid anymore? We make sure your generator works when you need it!

If you currently own a generator, or have had one recently installed, we can help you keep it running reliably and make suggestions that will allow you to attain the maximum life expectancy from it. In our view and experience, that should be 20 years or more.

Below are just a few problems that we encounter regularly, that need to be resolved, to provide the aforementioned reliability and longevity.

Rodent damage.

This results from mice, chipmunks or squirrels entering your generator through holes and openings that haven't been sealed. We use sprayfoam to seal these holes. They chewed the wire insulation on this unit causing the capacitors to fail.

Water damage

This is a burned stator - very expensive to repair.
Water enters the generator in a number of ways. Sprinklers from ground level, spray through the louvers, the generator is sunk into the ground, allowing water to just flow inside, and water cascading off a roof with clogged gutters or no gutters. We try to prevent this damage before it happens by giving you options to resolve the water problem.

Failed engine oil pump

This generator engine had no oil pressure. We dissassembled the engine on site to determine the cause and found this stripped oil pump gear. The oil pump was replaced and the generator runs like new. We do all repairs at your home to save you time and money. We will not charge you to remove, transport and return the unit so we can work on it in the shop. That is unnecessary.

Generator is below grade level

This is a very common problem that creates many problems due to water infiltration. In this case, the burned out stator in the picture above was the result. We replaced the stator and rotor and temporarily raised this unit. We will be putting this machine on an elevated base in the spring. As always, all repairs are done at your home. We do not remove your generator.

We love what we do.

My name is Mike Kurz. I started Access equipment in 1994 and have been working on generators since 1980. The intent of this website is Twofold. First, I want to introduce you to our company and what we do and, Second, I would like to share the many things I have learned over the past 40 years fixing generators, both good and bad, with generator owners, in the hope that I can provide a better understanding of how your generator works and how to keep it working.

To those of you who do not own a generator but are thinking of buying one, I would like to provide the information you need to acquire the right generator and the proper installation techniques that will allow you to avoid the problems that result from inadequate installation practices that are common in the industry. The above examples are only but a few of those practices.

Over the coming weeks and months I will be posting articles and many pictures that will help you in that endeavor. Keep checking back for updates as this will be a work in progress. I will also take this opportunity to introduce you to our puppy, Molly. She rides with us every day and you will likely be the victim of her never ending desire for treats and pets if you come to the van to visit her.

Something I think about while I am working.

A great deal of the joy of life consists of doing perfectly, or at least to the best of ones ability, everything which he attempts to do. There is a sense of satisfaction, a pride in surveying such a work–a work which is rounded, full, exact, complete in all it’s parts–which the superficial man, who leaves his work in a slovenly, slipshod, half-finished condition, can never know. It is this conscientious completeness which turns work into art. The smallest thing well done becomes artistic.
